Back when my bullet journal was full of codes for different departments

Hold on, digital calendars are a trap. They hide the mess but they also hide the work. My old color coded chaos showed the actual weight of my week at a glance, all those department codes screaming for attention. Now my phone just shows sterile blocks of time, and I miss seeing the whole ugly, true picture of how busy I really was.

I finally had to disagree with my buddy about the whole 'birds aren't real' thing

Honestly david703 has a point though. We see a squirrel do one cute trick and suddenly they're planning their next chess move. It's probably just an instinct they have, like birds building nests. We love to put human smarts on animals but most of the time it's just basic survival stuff. I'm not convinced a fake nut drop means they're sitting around thinking up pranks.

A regular told me my shop was his 'therapy' and it's been on my mind

Honestly that's the REAL job right there. I've had clients tell me similar things and you have to hold that space carefully. Set soft limits in your own head, like you're a friendly listener but not their free therapist. It keeps you from burning out. The trick is to care without taking on their baggage as your own, because that emotional work IS work even if it doesn't show on the bill.

I always thought the old 'quench in urine' thing was just a gross story, but a guy at the Montana forge meet last weekend showed me a real 18th century document that listed it as a hardening step for certain tools.

Hold on, "urine's acid helps cut steel" is a huge overstatement. The ammonia in old urine might help break down rust or act as a light cutting fluid, but it's not actively cutting the metal. Water with a proper soap or oil works way better for lubrication and cooling without the mess and smell.

Had to pick between a regular shoe and a heart bar for a laminitis case

Lifesaver" seems like a strong word for a shoe change. I've seen a lot of sinking soles that just needed a good trim and some time in a dry stall. The bar helps, sure, but sometimes I wonder if we jump to the fancy fix too fast. It's hard to tell what's really doing the work.
