Swapped my gas lawn mower for a manual reel mower back in June
I used to spend 30 minutes every Sunday pushing my old Toro around the yard and smelling like exhaust. Picked up a Fiskars reel mower for $120 after a neighbor mentioned how quiet hers was, and now I finish in 20 minutes with zero emissions. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed their grass looking healthier from the clean cut?

Little gas mowers mulch better and handle taller grass without bogging down. Reel mowers leave clippings on top that can smother the lawn if you let it get too long. Doesn't your yard look a little ragged after a rainy week?

Yeah you said "handle taller grass without bogging down" like that's a good thing. But if your grass is getting that tall between cuts youre already doing it wrong. Reel mowers force you to stay on a schedule which is better for the lawn in the long run. And that whole thing about clippings smothering the lawn is overblown if you just mow more often. Honestly sounds like you're using a gas mower to cover up lazy mowing habits.

oh man youre right on the money here. i used to fight with my reel mower every summer and it drove me nuts, especially after a rainy stretch where the grass shot up. switched to a little gas model last year and its night and day. i can mow on my own time, not when the grass gods decide i have to. plus the mulch actually breaks down and feeds the lawn instead of just sitting there looking like a hayfield.
