That moment when my first GitHub repo got a real pull request from a stranger

I started coding about 8 months ago with just some Python tutorials on YouTube. For the longest time I was just pushing code that nobody else would ever see. Then last week I woke up to a notification that someone I didn't even know had submitted a pull request fixing a bug in my little weather app project. I honestly froze for a second before I even clicked on it. Has anyone else had that weird feeling when a random person interacts with your code for the first time?

My neighbor Diane had this happen about a year ago with a little gardening site she built to track her tomato plants. She spent months tinkering with the code and never told anyone about it, just sort of quietly posted it online. Then one morning she got a pull request from some person in Germany who fixed a date calculation error she hadn't even noticed. She told me she stared at her screen for a good five minutes before she trusted it enough to click the green button. Now she gets a little kick out of every single notification, even the spam ones.

My buddy Tom had this exact thing happen with a little recipe sharing site he built last summer. Somebody from Canada fixed a glitch where the cooking time converter mixed up Fahrenheit and Celsius on pork roasts. He was so nervous he made his wife look at the code first before he dared to merge it.

Is his wife starting a side business now reviewing pull requests before he merges them? The Canadian pork roast fixer is probably still waiting for a thank you email or maybe a free recipe ebook. At this rate Tom's site will be perfectly optimized by 2035 assuming he asks his wife to check every single line.
