I wasted $80 on a fancy coffee scale that barely works for pour-over
Honestly, I bought this sleek coffee scale from a brand I saw all over Instagram. It looked perfect for pour-over, but the timer keeps lagging by like 2 seconds each time. After three tries, I realized it's just not accurate enough for dialing in recipes. Anyone else run into overhyped gear that didn't deliver?

Off by 2 seconds" adds up fast when you're timing pours. @fionam11, it's not just about the scale being off, it's about the principle of paying for something that lies about what it does. I get that you can "adjust with your eyes" but that defeats the whole point of buying a precise tool in the first place. These Instagram brands know people will forgive a bad product if it looks good on the counter, and that's the real problem here. Might as well just use a plastic scoop and a cheap timer if they're gonna charge $80 for a broken promise.

Right, that sounds like a total pain. I dropped $120 on a scale that was supposed to be super precise, but the buttons barely work after a month. It's like they put all the money into the looks and zero into how it actually functions. You can't trust a scale that's off by 2 seconds, especially when you're trying to nail down a recipe. Nothing worse than spending good money on something that's all hype and no help.

Oh come on, is it really that serious? "Off by 2 seconds" on a scale? That's like caring about the color of the battery inside the remote. I mean yeah, @laura_black, I get it's annoying if the buttons are janky after a month, but you're acting like it ruined your whole baking career or something. People act like a scale not being perfect is a tragedy, but most of us just need something that says "200g" and doesn't explode. If it's off by a tiny bit, just adjust with your eyes, it's not that hard. You probably could have grabbed a $20 one from target and been fine, but you bought into the fancy marketing and now you're mad. Sometimes you gotta just shrug and move on, not write a whole novel about it.
