Just realized I hit 500 pounds of coffee beans in my home roaster
I was cleaning out my roasting log yesterday and added up the numbers. Turns out I've roasted exactly 512 pounds of green beans since I started this hobby 3 years ago. That's like 200 pots of coffee a month if you do the math lol. I'm surprised I haven't burned my house down honestly - my Behmor 1600 Plus is a trooper. It hit me that I've spent around $3,000 just on beans alone, which is way more than I ever thought I'd put into this. Has anyone else kept track of their roast volume and gotten a shock? I'm curious if I'm normal or just addicted.

Did you see that study about home roasters burning through their Behmors after 500 pounds?

Mine died right at 470 pounds. The heating element gave out mid-roast on a Saturday morning. If you're pushing past 400 pounds on a Behmor, start keeping a spare element and a multimeter handy. I bought a second one used just for parts after that. Also, clean the chaff tray after every roast - that buildup blocks airflow and cooks the machine from the inside out.

I've seen three Behmors die between 430 and 480 pounds. Every single one had the heating element fail first. The chaff tray thing is real too - I cleaned mine every third roast and still lost one to airflow issues at 445 pounds. If you're at 400 pounds, buy that spare element pack before you need it.
