My cheap scale from Amazon was a total waste of $15

I got this little digital scale to measure my coffee beans, thinking it would help me be more exact. But it's so slow to read out the weight that my pour over water cools down while I'm waiting. I should have just saved up for a Hario scale instead. Has anyone found a good budget scale that actually works fast?

Ngl, that sounds super frustrating to deal with every morning.

Just use a tablespoon. It's close enough and your coffee won't get cold. People get too hung up on exact numbers.

I've been there with the slow scales. My old one took like five seconds to settle on a number. What I do now is just put my mug on the scale, hit tare, and start pouring the water right away. I watch the weight go up as I pour and stop when it hits my target. The scale catches up by the time I'm done. It saves the whole wait.

Saw a video once where a guy tested that method with a high speed camera. The scale actually lagged behind enough to overpour by a few grams every single time. Makes you wonder if the wait is built in for a reason, right? I get the urge to speed things up when you just want your coffee. But maybe that five seconds is what it takes to get the number right.
