Yeah I used to roll my eyes at this stuff. Not anymore.

Damn right you do. One time I had a guy swear up and down he didn't touch anything. Found a paperclip jammed into an Ethernet port. What was the actual problem when you finally traced it?

That paperclip story is gold, @fisher.thomas. I had a similar one years back - a guy in accounting swore his computer just "stopped working" every time he tried to open Excel. After a week of back and forth, I finally watched him over his shoulder. He was double-clicking the icon so fast Windows couldn't keep up, then he'd hit Ctrl+Z like a dozen times thinking that would undo the lag. The actual problem was he had 47 browser tabs open, three instances of QuickBooks, and his desktop wallpaper was a 4K photo of his cat. Once I closed half that stuff and made him slow down, his machine ran fine. Users never think their own habits are the issue, they just point at the screen and sigh like it's possessed.
