Last week in Austin, a BIOS update went horribly wrong

I was at a client's office in Austin updating the BIOS on their HP EliteDesk 800 G4 when the power flickered. The system froze, and I was stuck with a bricked motherboard. I ended up using HP's USB recovery tool, but it took me 3 tries to get the right BIOS file. What do you guys do to prevent this kind of thing?

Ever think about using a cheap UPS just for the update machine? @kelly_patel is right about chaos, but maybe we can buy a little safety.

Ever notice how we're always one small glitch away from total chaos? Your power flicker story is just the tech version of a single wrong turn ruining a whole trip. Makes me want to unplug everything important during updates now.

Saw a tech blog say to always check the file hash before flashing. Stops you from using the wrong BIOS version.

Wait, you weren't checking the hash before?!
