Rant: Walked into a client's server room last week and found 3 switches stacked on a cardboard box.

They had no cooling, no labels, and one power strip daisy-chained into another, has anyone else seen setups that made you want to just walk out?

That cardboard box setup sounds like they're one coffee spill away from a disaster, but honestly its not like the whole building is gonna explode. Yeah its super unprofessional and they should at least have proper cable management, but I bet that setup has been running for years without any real issues. Most of these horror stories end with the gear working fine despite looking like a fire hazard. The lack of labels is the real crime though, trying to trace a cable through that mess would be way worse than the cardboard. Not saying its good or anything, just that its probably more common than people want to admit.

Why take the risk though when zip ties cost like five bucks?

My home server's held together with duct tape and prayers, guess we're all just lucky it hasn't caught fire yet.
