My neighbor in Denver swore the moon landing was fake, so I had to pick a side

Last month, my neighbor Bob came over for a beer and started going off about the moon landing being a film set. He said the flag waving was proof. I had a choice: just nod along to keep the peace, or actually look into the facts myself. I spent about two hours that night watching videos from NASA and reading old articles. I found the flag thing has a simple answer about how it was put up. I told Bob the next day I didn't buy his theory, and he got pretty mad, lol. Now we just talk about football. Has anyone else had a friendship get weird over a conspiracy talk?

Wait, he got mad just because you looked it up? That's the wild part to me. Like, you did the actual work to check his story and he's the one who got upset about it. What did he want you to do, just believe him without question? Makes you wonder why people get so tied to these ideas that fall apart with a simple google search.

Forget ego, some people just hate feeling like you're grading their conversation. It kills the vibe.

Honestly, it's not always about the facts though. Sometimes people tie their whole identity to a belief. So when you look it up, it feels like a personal attack, not just checking a fact. Like if someone's grandpa always told them this wild story about their family history, and you prove it wrong, it ruins more than just the story. It's about pride and being wrong in front of others.
