Shoutout to that fancy laser level that crapped out on me mid-job
I bought a $250 green beam rotary laser last year, figured it would save me time on a basement remodel I was doing in Denver. Two weeks ago, on a Tuesday, it just stopped leveling mid-sweep and started blinking an error code I couldn't find in the manual. I spent an hour trying to recalibrate it, even called customer support, and they told me to mail it in for repair which would take 3 weeks. Ended up grabbing a $60 basic cross-line laser from the hardware store that same day and finished the layout in half the time. Has anyone else had a high-end tool fail on them like this, or did I just get a lemon?

Always thought high-end meant reliable, but this changed my view completely.

Yeah, read somewhere that a lot of these fancy tools are just rebranded cheap stuff with a big markup. Sounds like you got exactly that.

Funny you mention that, @xena582, I bought what I thought was a premium leather bag once, turns out it was just a cheap one from overseas with a fancy logo glued on. Couldn't even hold up through a rainy commute before the handle let go. So yeah, paying more doesn't always get you better quality in my experience.
