Gas station sushi was a gamble I finally stopped taking after 3 bad experiences in Phoenix last summer
I used to grab those premade sushi rolls from the cooler at Circle K thinking it was a quick, cheap lunch. Then I got sick twice in one month - once with actual food poisoning that kept me out of work for a day. Now I just pack my own rice and canned tuna or hit up a real grocery store deli. How do you guys handle lunch on job sites without dropping cash on garbage food?

Grabbed gas station sushi once in Vegas, spent the next day hugging a toilet in my hotel room.

That three trips thing is exactly what it took me to learn. I did the Circle K sushi twice in Tucson and both times I was sweating it out by evening. What finally worked for me was getting a decent insulated lunch bag and making my own onigiri at home the night before. I do the canned tuna mixed with mayo and a little soy sauce, wrap it in plastic wrap, and it stays cold enough in a bag with a frozen water bottle. Costs me maybe a dollar per serving and I never worry about getting sick. If I am really in a rush I will just buy a bag of frozen edamame and a container of rice from the grocery store deli and eat them cold, which is way safer than that gas station stuff.
