Just realized my favorite blooper reel was full of deep fakes

I used to watch this compilation of actors flubbing lines and think it was hilarious bad acting. After a post here made me look closer, I paused on a scene I loved. The actor's mouth moved in a way that didn't match the sounds, and his hair had this odd, fuzzy edge in one frame. It dawned on me that someone had swapped faces and voices as a joke. I felt so dumb for not seeing it before, especially since I shared it with everyone. Now, I always watch for those small slips, like weird shadows or too-perfect skin. It turned my funny video into a lesson on checking the details. Guess I won't trust those clips so easily anymore.

Last month, a tech blog mentioned deep fakes being used to edit old TV shows for streaming services. They sometimes 'fix' mistakes or add new jokes without telling anyone. That could explain why your blooper reel felt off, if it was taken from a cleaned-up version. It's creepy how much content gets changed after the fact.

Was it a joke or training data?

Oh goodness, this hits on something that bothers me more each year. I find I can't trust my own memory of movies or news clips because the version I see now might be silently changed. It makes you question everything you see online, not just old TV. The line between a joke and something used to teach a machine gets very blurry, and that's a scary way of seeing things.
