A gallery owner in Seattle told me my color palettes were 'too safe' and it stuck with me
She said my digital landscapes looked like stock photos because I kept using the same five muted tones. I started forcing myself to pick one wild color for each piece, like a bright magenta sky or acid green trees. Has anyone else been pushed to break a habit that was holding their art back?

Wait, she said your work looked like stock photos to your face? That's a brutal way to get feedback. Good on you for actually listening and trying something new instead of just getting mad. Forcing that one wild color sounds like a perfect way to shake things up without losing your whole style. Makes you wonder how many other artists are stuck in a safe loop because nobody tells them.

Honestly, how do you even get that kind of real talk anymore? @wright.leo is right, most people just give you a polite "looks good." I had a teacher in college tell me my stuff was boring and safe, and it stung so bad lol. But forcing myself to use one weird element, like you said, totally changed my process. It's scary to break your own formula but it's the only way out of that loop.

Ever try adding that weird element to something you already finished, just to see what happens?
