I almost burned my garage down in Boise last month because of a cheap extension cord.
It was powering my miter saw and started melting after about 20 minutes of cutting trim. Has anyone else had a close call with electrical gear they thought was fine?

Cheap extension cord" is doing a lot of work there. I mean, did you check the rating on it before you plugged a saw in? Those things are labeled for a reason. A lot of folks just grab whatever's in the drawer without a second thought. Maybe the real close call was assuming any old cord could handle a power tool.

But how many people actually read those labels? Most extension cords look the same, and if it fits in the outlet, you just use it. The real problem is that the cheap ones shouldn't be sold if they can't handle basic tools. Why make a cord that can't do the job it's clearly meant for? It sets people up to fail.
