Warning: Quit using splines for everything until I got schooled by a structural drafter

I used to throw splines at every curved detail in my plans until a dude I sub for told me I was making the steel fab guys life hell. He showed me how simple arcs and tangent lines cut the DXF file size by 40% on a warehouse job in Phoenix. Has anyone else had a fabricator complain about your curve geometry?

Man that 40% file size drop is ALL the convincing I'd need too. I had a similar wakeup call when a laser cutter I work with (for side projects, not my day job) told me my spline-heavy curves were making his machine stutter and slow down during cuts. Switched to simple arcs and tangent lines like you said, and his machine runs smooth as butter now.

Nope, but that 40% file size drop is ALL the convincing I'd need.

40% file size drop hardly seems like a big deal for most people.
