My mom finally used the Life Alert after 8 months of having it

She tripped over the cat last Tuesday and pressed the button for the first time. The operator stayed on the line until my sister got there, and nobody had to call an ambulance.

The cat is definitely in on it, probably been planning this for months. Eight months of waiting for that perfect moment to strike. At least your mom got her money's worth out of the system before a real emergency happened, I guess. The operator probably had a nice little chat with her about cat ownership and floor safety. Your sister is now the designated cat monitor for life, congratulations to her.

Oh wow, I don't know, is this really that big of a deal? I mean yeah it's a little funny the cat caused it, but the whole thing went perfectly fine. Nobody got hurt, no ambulance needed, the operator did their job and your sister came over. That sounds like a win honestly. People act like this is some crazy story but it's just a normal thing that happened. Your mom had it for 8 months and it worked exactly how it should when she finally needed it.

Yeah I used to be on the other side of this honestly. I remember reading stories like this and thinking it was a huge overreaction or some crazy failure. But seeing it play out here and thinking about it again, I kind of agree with @theajohnson. My grandma has had her button for like two years and never used it, and my whole family jokes about it being a waste of money. But if a cat knocking it over got her help for a small fall or a dizzy spell, that's actually the whole point right? The system worked, nobody got hurt, the operator handled it like a pro. I guess I just never thought of it that way before.
