Walked into a mom-and-pop repair shop in Fresno last weekend and got an earful
The guy running it told me he refuses to work on anything made after 2015 because the chips are too hard to source. Said he's sitting on a pile of dead Samsung TVs nobody can fix. Is that really where we're headed that older gear is the only stuff worth touching?

Man, @casey818 you're not wrong about that. It's just sad to see how much good hardware gets trashed because one little chip burns out and there's no way to swap it.

Man I feel that "pile of dead Samsung TVs nobody can fix" line. I've got three in my garage right now, same deal - main boards fried and nobody stocks the replacement chips anymore. It's wild how fast stuff went from repairable to paperweight.

@casey818 honestly I gotta push back a little here. Those three dead TVs in your garage are basically a museum of planned obsolescence, but at the same time if the main board chips were still available nobody would ever buy a new TV and the whole industry would grind to a halt.
