Vent: I saw a wild story about a sinkhole in my own town that turned out to be a total fake

I was scrolling through my feed last Tuesday and saw a picture of a massive sinkhole on Oak Street, right near the library. The post said it swallowed a whole car and had over 2,000 shares. I drove by there the next morning on my way to work and everything was completely normal, no hole at all. I did a quick reverse image search and found the original photo was from a storm in Florida back in 2020. Has anyone else had a fake local story spread like that in their area?

I saw a fake post about a bear in our park last year. I just commented on the original post with a link to the real news article from a different state. It got a few likes and seemed to slow the shares down a bit.

Yeah, @jordan_henderson13, that link trick works.

Man, my own gullibility is the real sinkhole here. I once spent twenty minutes looking up flights because someone posted a fake "free trip" contest from our local radio station. Another time I almost drove across town for a "pop-up taco truck" that was just a picture from Austin. I should really fact-check before I get excited, lol.
