My sister's dance recital shifted my approach to fashion

I went to my sister's dance show last Saturday. Her outfit moved with her in a way that caught my eye. It got me thinking that my designs were too still. I started to draw clothes with more room to bend and stretch. I added things like gussets and lighter fabrics to my plans. Now I see how motion can be part of everyday style. This new view has really opened up my sketchbook. Have you ever taken inspiration from a live event?

Yeah that's such a good point. I used to just draw clothes on a still figure, but watching people actually move in them changes everything. I started going to the park and just watching how fabric falls when someone walks or sits. You gotta actually test the stretch of the material yourself, like really move around in it. It made me stop using certain stiff fabrics altogether. My advice is to keep a small notebook when you're out and just quick sketch how clothes behave in real life. How's that working out for your new sketches?

Hey @zara465, what STIFF fabrics did you stop using after testing?

Actually disagree about dropping stiff fabrics completely. That structure is key for some pieces. A stiff denim jacket or a thick wool skirt moves in its own way, and that's useful. It tells you about weight and how it sits on the body differently than stretchy stuff. You lose a whole category of form if you cut it out.
