Trying to make a dress with two different kinds of stretch fabric was a huge mistake

I wanted a fitted bodice with a flowy skirt, so I used a heavy cotton spandex for the top and a lightweight rayon jersey for the bottom. The cotton spandex had maybe 30% stretch and held its shape perfectly, but the rayon jersey just sagged and pulled at the seams after one wear. The difference in recovery and weight made the whole dress look lopsided and cheap. Has anyone else tried mixing stretch fabrics and found a combo that actually works?

Learned that lesson the hard way. Made a shirt with mismatched knits once. Looked like a sad potato sack after one wash.

Yeah, mixing stretch fabrics is such a gamble, isn't it? I mean, even if the stretch percent is similar on paper, the recovery and weight can totally wreck it. Maybe try sticking with knits that have the same fiber base, like a cotton jersey with a cotton spandex, so they at least behave in the wash? The rayon was always gonna lose against that heavier fabric.

Exactly what @phoenix_grant said. It's like the whole fabric just gives up. See this everywhere now, not just clothes. Cheap stuff looks fine at first but falls apart fast. The base materials matter way more than the first look. Companies bank on us not checking that stuff. Saves them money, costs us more in the long run.
