Just realized the 'no salt' fries trick actually works
I always thought asking for fries with no salt was just a weird customer thing to get fresh ones. Figured they'd just scrape the salt off or something. But last month at a drive-thru in Tacoma, I asked for no salt on my order and watched them drop a whole new basket. Got a piping hot batch that was way better than the lukewarm ones sitting under the heat lamp. It took an extra three minutes, but it was worth it. Anyone else tried this and had it actually pay off?

That Tacoma drive-thru is a solid test case. Did you notice if they had a policy posted about it, or did the worker just seem annoyed but did it anyway? I'm curious if this works better at corporate chains versus local spots.

The worker's face said "policy," but the coffee said "fine.

Nah I gotta disagree on this one lol. I've actually had way better luck at local spots, they usually just want you to be happy and come back. The corporate places are the ones where they have to follow a strict rulebook. That barista at the indie bakery was probably just having a bad day, most of them are cool about it if you ask nice. The policy thing is way more real at the big chains in my experience.

Honestly, the policy is always in the sigh. You get the long pause, the look at the car behind you, then the super slow reach for the cup. Corporate spots are a coin flip, but at a local place? Forget it. I tried it once at this indie bakery and the barista looked at me like I asked for a latte in a shoe.
