Switched from baling twine to actual butchers twine for my salami after 4 blowouts in 3 months

I used to just grab whatever twine was lying around the barn but since I swapped to proper stuff in June I haven't had a single casing split on me, anyone else cheap out on supplies and regret it later?

Wait, are you sure it was the twine that caused your blowouts or could it be how you were hanging them? I switched to butchers twine years ago but what really fixed my splits was adjusting my stuffing pressure and chilling the meat better before hanging. The twine matters for sure but I think people overlook how much the casing prep and fat distribution play into it. I had one batch where the twine was perfect but the casing still ripped because I didnt let the meat rest long enough before hanging. You might already have that dialed in but just something to think about.

Gotta disagree hard here - I switched to butcher's twine and my blowouts got way worse until I stopped overcomplicating it and just tied em looser.

@emma_garcia Loose ties fix most twine issues. Casing prep matters more than the twine itself.
