Update: Bought a $25 pH meter for my kombucha and it was a total waste

It gave me three different readings in five minutes, so I just went back to tasting it. Anyone have a cheap meter that actually works?

Ugh, my friend had the same thing happen with her sourdough starter! She just uses the old float test now.

The float test is such a lifesaver, isn't it? I had a starter that looked perfect but made bricks for bread. Tossing a spoonful in water is way easier than guessing. It just tells you straight up if it's ready to go. My loaves got way more reliable after I switched to that method. Why mess with anything more complicated?

My car's temperature gauge is just as useless sometimes.
