Old timer told me to stop using my knee as a brake...

I was on a big glue-down LVP job in a 3,000 sq ft office last week, and this guy who's been doing floors since the 80s watched me for a minute. He said 'you're gonna wreck your knee doing that, use your hand to press and roll instead.' I switched to using a hand roller for the edges and my knee felt way better after a full day. Has anyone else been taught a simple body mechanic trick that saved them from pain later?

Switch to a knee pad with a gel insert too if you haven't already. That old timer's tip is gold though, I used to do the same thing and ended up with some real soreness on the inside of my knee. Now I keep a hand roller in my belt pouch for all the edge work and only drop to my knees for the big open stretches. Saves your joint and honestly makes the work go faster once you get used to it.

Only drop to my knees for the big open stretches" - man, that hit me. I never thought about saving my knees like that, I've just been crawling around like an idiot this whole time.

Jumped in here thinking the old timer was just being old school and stubborn. I was totally wrong. I used to grind away on my knees all day thinking that's just how you do the job, but after trying the hand roller trick for a week, I can actually stand up straight after work now. Never realized how much pressure I was putting on my inner knee until I paid attention to it. Feels like one of those simple fixes that should have been obvious but nobody tells you. You sticking with the hand roller for good now or do you still drop down sometimes for quick spots?
