My main client's payment system crashed right before rent was due
It happened two Fridays ago, right when their online portal went down for a full day. I had a $2,300 invoice sitting there that I couldn't submit. I had to call them directly and get them to send a manual wire, which took an extra three business days. Has anyone else had to chase down a payment because of a tech failure?

Chasing payments because of a tech crash is my unofficial side hustle. My own bank's app once decided to take a vacation, locking me out right as a big check cleared. I spent an hour on hold with support, just to be told the system was "having a moment." It's like the digital world knows exactly when to fall apart.

Having a moment" is the tech support version of "the dog ate my homework.

Been there. My biggest lesson is to get a direct contact in accounting, not just a general office number. Saved me last time their upload tool broke. I email them a PDF invoice the same day I send it through the portal now, as a backup. It adds five minutes to my process but cuts out the panic.

Our old system crashed for a full week last year. Had to do exactly what @matthewmiller said, chase everything by phone. Now I always get a direct email for the finance person. Cuts the stress in half.
