Shoutout to anyone reviewing smart home stuff, you're missing a huge battery life problem

Honestly, I've been testing a bunch of new smart sensors for my place in Seattle, and every single review I watch just glosses over battery drain. I set up three different motion sensors from major brands last month, and one of them died in under 60 days, not the 'year plus' the box claimed. The reviewers all talk about setup and the app, but nobody leaves the thing running for a few months to see what really happens. I know because I did, and the results are bad. It matters because if you're putting 15 of these in your house, you don't want a part-time job changing batteries. Has anyone else done a long-term run on a gadget and found the battery life was way off from the marketing?

That's basically every gadget claim ever (sadly).

Used to be a real sucker for those promises. The marketing for my first smartwatch said it would change my life, and I believed it. Having it buzz for every email just made me anxious, not productive. Now I see those claims for what they are, just a way to get you to buy the next thing.

Notice how this battery life thing is just the latest version of "works on paper." My coffee maker claimed to be a one touch machine but needs a full clean every week to not taste burnt. We're sold the dream version of a product, not the real, annoying, battery changing version we actually live with.
