I'm looking for a good quality wood-burning fire pit for the backyard, but I'd really love one that has attachments or grates so I can cook over an open flame. Any suggestions?

I highly recommend looking into S&S Fire Pits. They have a whole line of accessories, including heavy duty grates that are perfect for open fire cooking.
That's what we use for our backyard cookouts. The steel holds heat really well, making it awesome for grilling steaks and burgers over oak wood.
I've been wanting to try open fire cooking, I'll have to look into those! Do they hold up well if left outside all winter?
