Just got my first full crown reduction right on a sugar maple
Used to just thin everything heavy, no real plan. That changed after a storm in April took down three limbs from a neighbor's tree. Now I mark every major cut with chalk first, think about weight distribution. Took me an extra hour today, but the shape is solid. Anyone else start doing more detailed prep work after a close call?

Read a study linking chalk-marking to a thirty percent drop in storm damage.

Okay but what does that even mean, chalk-marking? Like drawing on the sidewalk before it rains? That sounds like total magic, not science. Would love to see who paid for that study because the numbers seem way too perfect. Feels like one of those weird correlation things people run with.

Didn't a study last year say the same thing about lucky pennies?
