Serious question, is it ever okay to use a climbing saw on the ground?

Had a big maple removal in Portland yesterday and my ground saw died halfway through the trunk wood. I grabbed my top handle saw to finish the job because it was right there. My boss says it's a bad habit, but it got the tree down before the rain hit. What's your take on using climbing saws for ground work?

Yeah, and then what do you even do? Like, you're just stuck with a half-cut tree and a dead tool.
