My neighbor's $200 chain link fence fix lasted 2 days before the dogs knocked it down again

Last Tuesday in Austin, my neighbor spent $200 on a cheap chain link fence patch kit instead of replacing the whole section after his two labradors busted through it. The dogs were back in my yard digging up my flower beds by Thursday morning, and he's convinced he just needs to reinforce it more. How do you convince someone to stop throwing money at temporary fixes and just do it right the first time?

$400 on duct tape for a pipe? That's like buying a bandaid for a gunshot wound. Hope the floor was at least renters insurance claim worthy.

honestly i get where you're coming from but sometimes duct tape is all you got at 2am when the hardware store is closed. $400 is a lot but maybe they had to slap a bunch of it on there just to stop the flood until a plumber could come next day. sometimes you're just trying to buy time not fix the whole thing.
