Pro tip: I asked a direct 'what's your budget' question to a new customer at the bar last night and it actually got me a bigger tip.
I figured being blunt would scare them off, but the guy laughed, said 'about fifty bucks for the night', and then threw me an extra twenty at closing because he said he appreciated the straight talk, so has anyone else found that being super direct with people works better than dancing around the point?

bigger tip" - did you ask everyone or just certain customers?
