The way my dad handled car repairs vs how I do it now
I was under my truck yesterday patching an exhaust leak and realized how different things are from 20 years ago. My dad would just grab a beer, a wrench, and a Chilton manual and spend all weekend swearing at something. Now I watch a 10 minute YouTube video on my phone, order the exact part on Amazon, and get it done in 2 hours. That's progress I guess but something about the old way felt more satisfying. The parts cost me 47 bucks and a Saturday afternoon used to be the going rate. Has anyone else noticed how repair culture just totally shifted in the last decade or so?

Always thought manuals were obsolete but honestly you just convinced me to grab one.

Agree about YouTube, but keep a Chilton manual handy for torque specs you know?

Right because nothing says "trust me" like a random YouTuber who probably tightened their oil pan with an impact driver. Chilton manuals are basically the Rosetta Stone for when your torque wrench and your gut feeling disagree.
