My kid's plane fear has me rethinking how I talk about work at home
My son got scared after hearing about a minor aviation incident. I explained all the safety checks we do, but my wife says I'm just stressing him out more. Where do you all stand on sharing job details with family?

Totally get this, my kid overheard me talking about a rough day at the hospital once and got scared I was in danger every shift. Now I keep the really gnarly work stories for my spouse after bedtime. You wanna be honest but sometimes too much info just makes their little brains spin, lol. Finding that balance is a real pain.

Your point about too much info spinning their brains makes sense, but I've seen being OPEN about rough days help my kids deal with worry better. They figure out how to be tough when we don't hide the hard stuff.

Yeah it's like we're all trying to find that line between being real and causing stress. I see it with my neighbor, she told her kid every detail about their money trouble and now the kid panics if the grocery bill looks high. There's a difference between showing them life has bumps and putting the whole weight of adult problems on their shoulders.

Oh man, that's a rough spot to be in, and finding the right amount to share is so hard. From my own life, I've found that simple answers work best for young kids. You're doing your best, and that's what counts.
