Saw a stat about how much stuff people keep in their sheds and it's kind of wild
I was reading an article from a home improvement site last week, and it said the average backyard shed in the US holds over $2,000 worth of stuff. That blew my mind a bit, because I just think of mine as a place for the lawnmower and some old pots. It made me actually go look at what I've got piled in there, and I think I'm way over that number with all the tools and holiday decorations. It's crazy how it adds up without you even noticing. Has anyone else taken a real look at what's in their shed lately and been surprised by the value?

Honestly that stat seems low to me. My shed is full of stuff that's basically worthless to anyone else but would cost a fortune to replace. There's the pressure washer I got on sale, a full set of socket wrenches, and like ten cans of half-used paint for touch-ups. If my shed burned down, I'd be out way more than two grand just trying to buy all that junk again. It's not valuable stuff, it's just expensive.

Ugh, my friend's garage flood ruined like three grand in old tools.

Add up all those little costs sometime.

Yeah, that part about it being expensive to replace even if it's not valuable really hits home. I heard a home organizer on a podcast say we treat sheds like a pricey junk drawer, just tossing in anything we don't want in the house. @richarddixon is right about the half-used paint, I have a whole shelf of that. Mine's full of old gardening stuff and my husband's fishing gear that probably costs more than our couch. You don't realize the total until you actually add it all up.
