My drill chuck gave out mid-screw on a deck job last Tuesday

I was driving the last few screws on a client's deck in Portland when the chuck started slipping bad. Had to stop, borrow a neighbor's drill to finish, and now I'm shopping for a replacement. Has anyone else had a chuck fail suddenly like that?

Nah it was more of a Saturday thing but close enough. That's wild though, I've had drills die on me before but never the chuck itself just nope out like that. Usually they start rattling a bit or getting loose over time before they fully go. Maybe you got a bad one from the factory or something. Portland weather probably didn't help if you left it out in the rain before.

Wait, you had to stop mid-screw and borrow a neighbor's drill to finish the job? That's brutal. I never had a chuck just give up like that on me. Usually it's the motor that goes first or the battery stops holding a charge. That must have been a frustrating Tuesday.

Man that's rough, having a chuck just lock up or break mid-project is the worst kind of luck. Had a similar thing happen with a jigsaw last year where the blade clamp just gave out halfway through cutting some plywood. Nothing worse than having to knock on a neighbor's door to borrow tools when you're already frustrated.
