That $60 coffee grinder I bought off Amazon was a total mistake
Spent 3 weeks fighting with inconsistent grounds before I realized it was the grinder, not my pour over technique. Anyone else had a cheap grinder ruin their morning routine?

Read somewhere that burr grinders under $50 are basically just spinning hammers in a tin can. Your experience matches what I've heard from a few coffee people.

Wait, spinning hammers in a tin can? That sounds like something out of a horror movie for coffee beans, haha. I mean, I knew cheap grinders were bad, but that visual is actually kind of terrifying. I had one of those $30 blade grinders once and it was just a tiny motor with a metal blade that basically smashed the beans into dust. Not a burr in sight! I'm honestly surprised anyone even calls those things grinders, they're more like bean blenders. Makes me appreciate the cheapo hand crank ceramic burr one I got at a garage sale for like $5 even more now.
