Tried the whole 'follow the money' rabbit hole on big pharma last night
I spent 3 hours tracing shell companies and ended up finding my own damn cousin's name on a research grant for a diabetes drug. Now I can't tell if this proves the conspiracy or just means my family is way more connected than I thought. Has anyone else ever found something way too personal in a public database while digging?

The database rabbit hole is basically just a modern version of finding your ex's friends' Myspace comments from 2005 but way more official. That FCC story is hilarious though because now every time that ex gets mentioned, your buddy gets to be the conspiracy guy at the party. I bet he starts every story with "remember when I exposed the telecom lobbyist" like it's some spy thriller. The real truth is most people just stumble into boring compliance jobs and then someone like us digs it up years later looking for drama.

Writing down my findings in a simple notebook helped me spot the real patterns way faster than clicking around online.

My buddy once did the FCC database deep dive and found his ex-girlfriend listed as a lobbyist for a telecom company. He called me at 2am going "SHE WORKS FOR THE ENEMY." Turned out she just got a random compliance job but he still brings it up at parties like he uncovered some big secret.

And look I mean we all got that one ex we can't quite let go of right? Like I honestly feel for the guy because even if she wasn't doing anything shady the fact that he found her in there at all probably just reopened a whole bunch of old feelings. Its that weird mix of wanting to be right about someone and also just being confused why you even care anymore. He probably checked the database hoping for some kind of closure and instead got a new mystery to chew on. Honestly half the time when I look up old people its just me trying to prove to myself that I don't still think about them. But then you find something random like a job listing or a new address and it totally backfires.
