Why does nobody talk about the chalk line trick for big vinyl plank jobs?

My buddy Jake said to snap a chalk line every 4 rows to keep things straight, and it saved my butt on a 1200 sq ft basement. Has anyone got a better method for long runs?

Totally swear by chalk lines for big floors. I did my whole main level last year and snapped lines every five rows. It kept me from drifting almost an inch over 30 feet on my first try. That basement job sounds brutal without a guide. What width planks were you working with?

Honestly feels like overkill to me lol. I laid my kitchen floor just eyeballing it with a spacer and it came out fine. Drifting an inch over 30 feet? You'd have to be not paying attention at all.

Yeah that "drifting an inch" thing is exactly what changed my mind. I used to be like William and just wing it with spacers, thought lines were for pros. Then I did a long hallway and my last plank was way off, had to pull up like ten rows. Now I snap a line every few feet even on smaller jobs, it just saves the headache.
