TIL a trick for getting perfect gathers on slippery fabric

Honestly that dental floss trick is so smart. I read a blog post a while back where someone used it to gather a super heavy curtain fabric. They said normal thread kept breaking but the floss held up. Makes total sense because that stuff is strong. I keep meaning to try it on a thick skirt hem.

A friend in Denver called my old recycling habits 'wishcycling' and it stung

My town's website says they spend over $80,000 a year just to throw away the wrong stuff people put in the blue bins. That's tax money that could fix potholes. I used to toss in pizza boxes, but the grease means they're trash. Now I tear off the clean lid to recycle and trash the greasy bottom. It feels fussy, but that's the real system.

I finally got the old Otis hydro in the 1970s apartment building on Elm Street running smooth after three weeks of chasing a gremlin.

Ever check the new gasket material before you install it? I had a cheap one flake apart and send bits everywhere. Now I always run my finger around the edge to feel for loose bits.

Honestly, switching from a 0.5mm to a 0.3mm lead for my isometric sketches was a total game changer.

Oh man, I totally get that. I used to think lighter was always better for everything, like it just felt right. But then I tried a heavier lead for some technical stuff and wow, what a difference. It's exactly like you said @derekhunt, the fine lines just come out so much sharper. I still switch back for sketching, but for details it's a game changer. Kind of wild how one little tip can flip your whole view.

I used to think electric cars were just for rich people in California

Notice how a lot of tech just fades into the background when it actually works. My mom stopped talking about her "smart" thermostat after the first month because it just does its job. Same with my cousin's old Chevy Volt, he doesn't call it his electric car anymore, it's just his car. The good stuff becomes boring fast, and that's when you know it's actually part of your life.
