My uncle told me to always use hot glue for headbands

He said it sets fast and holds better than PVA. Tried it on a small run of 50 notebooks last month. The glue got brittle after two weeks, three covers popped right off. Now I'm back to my usual method with a slow set adhesive. Anyone have a better fix for quick headband work that actually lasts?

I just read that the average jar of sauerkraut contains over 100 billion live bacteria, which is wild to think about.

I found that fact in a library book about gut health and it made me look at my own fermenting crock in the kitchen a whole new way, so has anyone else come across a fermentation fact that made you pause?

My friend told me to never use pure black in digital paintings, and I ignored him for a year

He said it makes art look flat and dead, but I kept using it for shadows because it seemed easier. I was working on a big space scene with a black hole and it just looked like a weird hole in the picture, not deep at all. After a dozen failed tries, I finally listened and mixed a dark blue and purple instead of using #000000. The difference was crazy. The painting suddenly had depth and felt real, not like a cutout. I had to redo about five hours of work, but it was worth it. Has anyone else had a simple color tip that totally fixed a piece for them?

I thought that new ultrasonic cleaner was just a gimmick for our shop

We got a Crest 2.5 gallon unit last month and I was sure it was just a fancy parts washer. Then I used it on a set of gummed-up fuel nozzles from a Cessna 172 that came in from Tucson. After one 15 minute cycle, they looked brand new and passed flow tests perfectly. Has anyone else found a specific part that cleans up way better with ultrasonic than the old methods?

My brother showed me his envelope system at his place in Denver

I was visiting my brother in Denver last month and he pulled out a box of labeled envelopes from his kitchen drawer. He had one for groceries, gas, fun money, everything. He told me he puts cash in each one at the start of the month and when the envelope is empty, that's it for that category. I thought it sounded old school, but he showed me his bank app and he'd saved over $300 in two months just by not overspending on takeout. Seeing the real cash leave his hand made him think twice, he said. It stuck with me because I always just swipe my card and hope for the best. Has anyone else tried a cash-only system like this and did it help you save?

I was at the library and saw someone using a bullet journal for their research

I was at the main branch downtown last Tuesday, trying to find some old newspaper articles. At the table next to me, this person had a dotted notebook open, and it wasn't just notes. They had a whole spread with a timeline, color-coded sources, and a tracker for which archives they'd already checked. It was for a big history project. I always just used my bujo for daily tasks and maybe a monthly log. Watching them map out this complex project in such a clear, visual way was a real lightbulb moment. I've been doing my own family tree research for a year and my notes are a mess in three different apps. I went home and immediately made a project collection for it. Now I have a migration tracker for records I've requested and a simple index for each family line. Has anyone else used their journal for a long-term research project like that? I'm curious about how you set up the pages.

Hot take: I think a lot of people are way too rough with their game boxes when they store them.

I was at a game night in Austin last week and saw a guy just shove his copy of Scythe back on a shelf, crushing the corner. He said 'it's just a box' but that drives me nuts. I've been collecting for about ten years and I've seen mint condition games from the early 2000s lose half their value because the box looks like it went through a war. It matters because a damaged box makes the whole thing harder to sell or trade, and it just feels bad to pull a beat-up game off the shelf. I store mine upright, like books, and use little foam blocks inside to keep the components from sliding and denting the corners. It takes two extra seconds. Has anyone else found a good, simple way to keep boxes from getting wrecked on a crowded shelf?

Back when I started, my wings always came out like jerky. I followed bad advice to cook them on max heat, lol. What temp and time do you use now for perfect wings?
